who I amMy name is Luke Gonzalez, aka "Bau" or "Lucas Masoch." I'm a Puerto Rican musician, digital & ink artist, synesthete, and much more. I live on my own in Pittsburgh, PA. I spend half my time immersed in stories and music and the other half exploring the wild outdoors, pondering the nature of existence. I channel my imagination into my music to tell stories through sound, then sculpt it into something sonically pleasing to my ears (and hopefully yours too).
I have two musical acts - Baumarius and Syamori - through which I publish avant garde orchestral soundtrack and psychedelic music through. |
music
I've been making music since late 2014 when I got a cheap MIDI keyboard that came with Ableton Live Lite. I was trained on piano from ages 6-12 and learned a fair bit of music theory from my dad, who was a music teacher who graduated from UCONN with a degree in music. Despite having sworn I'd never touch a piano again at the age of 12, I picked up music production 5 years later and have been making music ever since. I compose in a variety of musical styles, including orchestral soundtrack, trance, psychedelic/psytrance, post-rock, modern cinematic, world, electronic, and more. This year I will be recording my upcoming album "Starlight Telepath" with the Czech National Symphony Orchestra. This is the opening track:
I currently have 7-8 hours worth of published music available on all streaming services. This playlist contains the best of these tracks. I also recently composed the music and sound effects for NordicFuzzCon's 2025 theme reveal animation:
synesthesia
I spent many years in self-imposed isolation, during which I developed multiple forms of synesthesia, a psychological phenomenon that causes one's senses to cross in their brain. Some scientists like to say that it's not possible to develop synesthesia, but I am living proof of the contrary. I intend to challenge that. For someone who never experienced synesthesia before the age of 14, my experiences are stronger than those of most synesthetes.
I can see music, touch, and emotions as colors, shapes, and other extra sensations that make them feel like phantom limbs, without the use of drugs. I occasionally make videos that show what that looks like. These videos depict roughly 10% of how it actually feels, as I can amplify these sensations on command to feel as if I exist solely as a soundscape without a physical body. I can also "manipulate" and flow among these sensations with my body and mind for use in emotional deliberation. Synesthesia will be a playable feature in the games I hope to create. My synesthesia video for Cyber Dance (below) was featured in MuVi 6 ahead of a number of similar productions from other artists who trained to do this professionally. I also produced the visuals for a performance in collaboration with Portrait XO for Synesthesia Dance Experience 2017. It wasn't perfect because of the time constraints and the limitations of my tools, but it was a fun experience. |

3D modeling
My main tool of choice for 3D modeling is Zbrush, which I am moderately proficient in. I have some experience with Blender, Maya, and Unity as well. My latest project involves making myself an avatar for use in VR Chat, which is still a work in progress.
I will soon be learning Unreal Engine 5 to build my own game ideas in, because Metasounds.

ink art
I occasionally create ink art with micron pens on vellum. Sometimes these end up being album covers too. The first image below has 7 animals in it - can you find them all?
technical details
For people who like lists, here are some things I am reasonably proficient in:
- After Effects
- Trapcode Suite
- Davinci Resolve
- Clip Studio Paint
- Zbrush
- Maya
- Blender
- OBS Studio
- Ableton Live
- A/V Systems & Studio Equipment
- Notion
- Microsoft Office
- Finding that frustratingly obscure and unmaintained piece of software required to make everything work
- Learning new things and adapting to constructive criticism
- Working with a team to create something of high quality based on someone else's inspiration
- Untangling the mysteries of the universe and then realizing they're just more tangled now
- LGBTQ+ Appreciation
- Beans. (You heard me.)
Things I strive to improve at:
I went to Windham Technical High School where I learned hand drafting, architectural standards, AutoCAD, and Revit. During my time there I was dual-enrolled at Eastern Connecticut State University, where I took every psychology course they had available in pursuit of a degree in neuroscience. I had a free ride through that college that disintegrated due to family circumstances at the time. It's a wild story - feel free to ask me about it!
I've since pivoted my career in the direction of music and game development. I love being challenged and I strive to be a reliable, industrious, and action-oriented asset to those who need what I can provide.

previous releases
fires of luuthea (2022)Fires of Luuthea was my fourteenth album in which I blended my orchestral style with electronic music. Several tracks on the album are simultaneously chill, but tense, including "Breathe" - which was inspired by my ongoing struggle with long covid. "Basking In The Sun" was composed just before the end of a five-year relationship with a very magical person, who I unfortunately had to leave for my own sake. While we held similar ideals in many ways, her sentiments were unimaginably cruel, which I have immortalized in my track "Empress of Karugis" on Starlight Telepath.
|
rebirth (2022)Rebirth was my thirteenth album as a whole and second album as Syamori, my psytrance-inspired alternate act. It features twelve tracks. The style of the music isn't all too different from my work as Baumarius anymore, but some tracks like "On Crystal Wings" were more heavily influenced by psytrance bands such as Shpongle and Entheogenic.
|
baumarius remastered (2020)Baumarius Remastered was my twelfth album, featuring eleven new or unreleased tracks and 74 tracks from my previously released works, which I remastered to modern streaming standards as they were frustratingly quiet compared to most songs. It includes the majority of my albums Kadamitas, Tenera, Sounds of Karugis, Ghost of the Wild, and Cosmic Communication, as well as parts of Victernus & Ancient, which can be found on my Bandcamp.
The album art was designed by my top fan and supporter, SheilaGrace, a therian who hails from Japan. It was based on the opening track, "The Mushroom Forest." |
sounds of karugis (2018)Sounds of Karugis was my eighth album. It has fifteen avant-garde orchestral tracks that sound like they belong in a video game. They were inspired by a story of my ex-partner's invention. Though we are no longer together, Sounds of Karugis remains a favorite amongst my fans, with "Eqoos" still holding as my most-played track on Spotify as of 2023. "The Great Forest" was later remixed for my album Rebirth and released as "Ambient Mutation." One track, "Crystal Peak," did not make it onto Baumarius Remastered. Some tracks such as "Riding on a Mushroom" have similar sounds to the Klonoa 2 soundtrack.

tenera (2016)Tenera, Parts 1 and 2, were my fifth and sixth albums. Together they contain the soundtrack for the original version of Tenera, which was designed to be a comic that never got off the ground. The project has since been reimagined as a video game with an altered story, instead featuring Baumarius & Syamori as the main character. I will be producing it over the next 5-6 years and eventually releasing an updated soundtrack. The original soundtrack is also a favorite of many of my long-time fans, especially the tracks "Innow," "Finding Self," and "In Control." The original version of "In Control" is still my most-played track to date, with over 20,000 views on YouTube.
